Why guests book deep tissue

Desk and phone posture

Tight upper back, neck and shoulders from long days at a screen or behind the wheel.

Active lifestyles

Golfers, runners, boaters, gym regulars and pickleball players who want to stay loose.

Stubborn knots

Focused work on the spots that never seem to let go on their own.

Physical jobs

Nurses, hospitality and trade workers who are on their feet all day.

Longer sessions

80 minutes or 2 hours gives your therapist time to work thoroughly without rushing.

Warmth included

Ask about adding hot stones. The warmth helps muscles soften so your therapist can work deeper.

Deep tissue massage, done thoughtfully

What makes it different

A deep tissue massage works the deeper layers of muscle and the connective tissue (fascia) around them. Instead of long, flowing strokes, your therapist uses slower, sustained pressure, often with the forearm or a focused thumb, and spends more time on the specific spots that feel stuck. Techniques can include trigger point work and cross-fiber friction across a tight band of muscle.

Pressure is a conversation, not a test. Firm should feel like a good kind of intensity you can breathe through. If you tense up against it, the muscle fights back, so we adjust as we go.

Where guests feel it most

Most of our deep tissue guests come in for the neck and tops of the shoulders, the area between the shoulder blades, the lower back, and the hips and glutes. Runners, cyclists and golfers often ask us to spend time on calves, hamstrings and the outside of the hips.

Make the most of your session

Ask about adding hot stones; the warmth helps muscles soften so your therapist can work deeper with less force. For very stubborn areas, ask about cupping with deep pressure, or add our 15-minute Arctic Pain Relief cold therapy to a spot that needs extra attention. Many guests also warm up in our private infrared sauna before their massage.

Aftercare

Drink plenty of water, take a warm shower and keep moving gently for the rest of the day. Mild tenderness for a day or two is normal. If you are working on a chronic issue, a follow-up in two to four weeks usually helps more than one long session a year.

Close to home

SolVita is at 417 Corbett St in Belleair, a short drive from downtown Clearwater, Clearwater Beach, Belleair Bluffs and Largo, with free parking and evening appointments until 9pm Tuesday to Saturday.

What to expect

  1. Arrive 15 minutes early to settle in and fill out a short intake form.
  2. Talk with your therapist about problem areas, pressure preferences and any injuries or health conditions.
  3. Focused, firm work with slow strokes and pressure on specific areas. Speak up anytime you want more or less pressure.
  4. Some soreness is normal for a day or two, a bit like after a good workout.
  5. Drink water and stay warm afterward, and consider a follow-up visit in two to four weeks for chronic tightness.

Frequently asked questions

Does deep tissue massage hurt?

You’ll feel firm pressure and some tender spots, but it shouldn’t be painful. Your therapist will check in and adjust, so tell us anytime.

What's the difference between deep tissue and a therapeutic massage?

Our therapeutic massage blends relaxation and deep tissue techniques for an all-over session. Deep tissue focuses firmer, slower pressure on specific tight areas.

How often should I get a deep tissue massage?

For ongoing tightness, many guests come every two to four weeks. For general upkeep, once a month works well.

Will I be sore afterward?

Mild soreness for a day or two is common. Drinking water, a warm shower and gentle stretching help.

Who should avoid deep tissue massage?

Please check with your doctor first if you are pregnant, have a blood clotting condition, take blood thinners, or have a recent injury or surgery. Our prenatal massage is a great option during pregnancy.
